Hathersage Methodist Church is part of the Inclusive Church Network. We believe in a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We don’t get everything right, but we are seeking to learn how to cater for diverse needs and ensure that we offer an affirming welcome to all. We also acknowledge that, over the years, churches in general haven’t always had a good track record of welcoming everyone. Some of the things we have been doing to become more inclusive: - Added ramps to the building and removed some pews to make worship more accessible - Gluten-free bread at communion so all can take part equally - Registered our premises to offer same-sex marriage - Upgraded our microphone to improve sound for the hard-of-hearing - Using the Inclusive Church resources to help us learn and grow in this area.
Equal marriage Our church premises is registered to offer same-sex weddings and blessings, as is our minister Rev Julie Letts. We are delighted that our church can offer the joyous, solemn occasion of a church wedding to all couples equally. To find out more about holding a wedding or other ‘life event’ at our church, get in touch with the Minister (see our ‘Contacts’ page).
Inclusive Church statement of belief We believe in inclusive church – a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate.
We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ. www.inclusive-church.org
